i i was wondering, could there be a sports forum? we talk about a wide range of sports here so why not?  it would end my resentment of having f1 posts being in the "autos" section!

I think a sports forum is a good idea, but I don't think we should do it.  The reason is it seems like we have to many forums already.  The general and cafe were designed for all the little topics that we have.  Do we have enough sports posts to deserve it's own forum?  Probably, but the problem that I see is there is simply to many forums already.  Personally, I find it hard to have to navigate all the forums we have already-just seems like we just don't need anymore.

I think maybe a re-organization of the forums might be in order.  Several categories seem to be redundant, and several are just not visited much.  For instance, even though I suggested the friends and family forum, I will admit, it's not being used and perhaps was not such a great call in the first place.

I would support a sports forum, as long as it didn't get carried away with a million sections.  I think that right now though, with the playoffs and such it is a big time for discussing sports.  In a few weeks that will die down and the forum might get ignored.

BTW, don't get mad, but I need to move this post!  Smiley

I agree with Pipen in that there is a need to reorganize the forum.

I don't think a sports forum is such a bad idea, look how well the music forum has done, the friends and family catagory could be replaced with a sports catagory.

As far as there being too many forums and being too hard to navigate, I don't see it that way at all, I visit the forums that interest me and there are some forums I have never even been in, besides possibly the moderators, who actually checks into every single forum each time they visit SimV?

I'm not suggesting a wholesale re-organization.  I think that these forums are not something that should be set in stone, but be fluid and change with the needs of the current members.  A sports forum may be a good idea now, but no such a good one in February when there are no real sports going on (except maybe hockey).

Also, there are several areas I do not visit, but have significant value for other people.  What does not fit for one may fit for another.  Keep that in mind.  Just because a forum does not apply to a persons needs doesn't mean there is no use for it.

Regarding a seperate "Sport" Forum...

Having noted the number of replies when a "sport" thread is opened it seems to me that most flight simmers are not particilarly interested....
Don't we all get enough of it already, blasted at us day after day, through the media...?
One of my greatest joys is coming here to get away from it all.... Wink... Wink... Wink...!

Cheers all... Grin...!

P.S. do you realise that one of the most popular sports around, is "FISHING"...how many times do you get someone overwhelming you with discussions on that sport... Roll Eyes...!!
...not many, I suspect... Wink...!
LOL...LOL...LOL...!

Fishing is not a sport.  Neither is chess or scuba diving!  For that matter, neither is ballroom dancing! Roll Eyes

Coarse fishing here in England IS regarded as a "sport",
...but fortunately, we don't get it rammed down our throats day after day in the media, compared to Althetics, Football, Baseball, Cricket, Tennis , Snooker, etc, and all the other guff that envelopes our radio, television, newspapers, etc... Angry...!

Computer Flight Simulator programs are a way of escaping from all this mind-numbing "sports" activity.... Wink...!
...so let's keep it that way...Please... Wink...!

Cheers all... Grin...!

P.S...think to yourself...do we REALLY need a Forum dealing with "Soaps" on the television....for crying out flippin' loud.... Angry... Angry... Angry...?

I'm with Foz on this one. I think there are far too many separate boards already which makes the whole thing unwieldy. It must also make it almost impossible to moderate. It was much better in its original form with just the FS, CFS, Design & General forums. IMHO
