Anyone know how to remove windows messenger completely?

I hate it - never used it - never want to use it.

Now I'm getting incessant & annoying popups asking me to update  Undecided

Anyone know how to zap the whole thing once & for all? I tried in Add/Remove Programs but it's not there ..

Hi Pete.

I have had exactly the same problem. And I finally found the sloution after days of looking for it on MSDN.

Click Start > Run.

Type the following:

RunDll32 advpack.dll,LaunchINFSection %windir%\INF\msmsgs.inf,BLC.Remove

and click OK. You may need to restart your computer, but Messenger will be gone, forever. Unless you download it again.

Hope it works (it did for me).

Jonathan

Hi Andrew,

Do you mean updated Messenger, or removed it as I said above?

Basically the same thing as GeForce said:
Start->Run->
c:\WINDOWS\inf\sysoc.inf

msmsgs=msgrocm.dll,OcEntry,msmsgs.inf,hide,7
change to
msmsgs=msgrocm.dll,OcEntry,msmsgs.inf,,7
then save the file.Uninstall messanger like any other Windows component in the Add or Remove Programs,then Add/Remove Windows Components.
