AMD is releasing the A64 Sept 4 last I heard. Smiley Anyone planning on taking a plunge and getting a Rev. 1 processor?

The A64 motherboards are all oging to have AGP, which is an incentive to not put off upgrading. :p Price is expected to be steep, though.

I heard a rumor that a Opetron running a GeForce4 MX440 PCI whipped up on P4 3.2 ghz and Athlon 3200+ machines running Radeon 9800 Pros. :p That has to say something.

I can't wait until release date... There is going to be such a huge media buzz over this. :p Hopefully it'll be more positive compared to the buzz over the G5. =\

i want a dual AMD Opteron 1.4 Ghz  Grin the mobo i found for them, 6 DIMMs, and can support up to 12 gigs of ram. I dont even think the 2Gig chips are out yet lol

lmao The only bad thing would be having to use a PCI video card. That would beyond rock in FS though... With an FX 5900 Ultra, 2 gigs of RAM (MS can't handle much more than that with any efficiency without special software), and dual processors, you could get some impressive framerates. Cheesy

yeah. I hate PCI graphics cards. and I have only seen 4x AGP for Athlon MPs which kinda sucks.

I believe that there are some MP boards by Tyan that have 8X AGP, but they're really spendy.

Opetron, as well as Athlon MP, are server boards. Servers usually don't have someone sitting at them doing things, so video isn't a high priority.

Someone linked to a piccie of a Quad Processor Opetron system. Smiley Very impressive. I had 5 RAM slots per CPU.

I've already taken the 'plunge' and gone 64-Bit......with an Apple PowerMac G5 that is! My Dual 1.8GHz with 512MB DDR400 RAM, GeForce FX 5200 Ultra and 800MHz FSB STEAM ROLLERS my Windows XP PC running with its AMD 3200+ and 1.5GB RAM. The speed from these 64-Bit babies is phenomenal! It will near INSTANTLY render an un-sharp filter on a 500MB file i created in PhotoShop 7.0. Its a shame that M$ hasnt made FS available for Macs, theres a whole wide market out there for it, and the quality would be great too!

I think i've been converted, and to think i've been missing out on this speed and quality build for all these years of my computing WOW!!

Could you post a picture of your XP Machine getting "Steam rollered", something I think alot of us would like to see!  Grin j/k

Back to the thread......

Nope, I've got no intention of going 64bit!

A lottery win would help me reconsider.... somehow I think I'll be 32bit for quite a while yet......  Sad

I'm curious.... Will AMD provide a free barbeque for on top of the CPU cooler?
Given their history of cool running processors and all that......  Grin

I'd say hold onto your cash and wait for the prices to tumble before you buy.......

Now, now, now, FS3 was available on Mac.
Macs are great machines but are just so expensive. When it comes to price, you can get an equivilant PC for half the price of the Mac and the PC has a lot more software available for it.
Macs are more reliable than PCs though. My PC has been in the shop countless times for this and that and my moms has only been in once for a burnt out power supply. She runs a Moterola Starmax with a 200mhz Moterola CPU, 128mb SDRAM, and has 6gb SCSI hard disk capacity. I think she got it in 1997. My dad has had his Mac since 1994 and still uses it!

My Duron still does it's job altough it's older and runs at only 950mhz with a 233mhz FSB. It's way better than the PentiumII I used to have which only ran at 233mhz with a 133mhz FSB. I just keep building onto mine. I may install a high preformance drive bay cooler and put in an Athlon XP 2000.

I only pretend to know what I'm talking about. Heck, that's what lawyers, car mechanics, and IT professionals do everyday. Believe it or not, the new AFX cpus run extremely cool. I've seen that they run 42 Celcius load, compared to the massive 100+ watts of heat that the Prescott gives off (rumor). The AFX is really going to appeal to the mainstream desktop people because it can be cooled with air. :p Rumors say that the Prescott will REQUIRE watercooling, and even run hot then. It's still a few months away, so we'll know eventually.

Thats true, but youd be surprised at how much mac software there is available! I mean take The Sims, this whole venture is now available on MAC....from the original 'The SIMS' right through to 'The SIMS - Superstar' and even Sim City 4! Macs simply work. Ok so they are MUCH more expensive, but their Dual Processor capability (and believe me theres LOADS of Dual Processor Macs, take the DP 2.0GHZ G5 (IBM PPC970) for example)  just throws Windows PC's aside. I can envisage me still using this Mac well into 2006 and having its technology as state of the art! Macs just seem to have that added shelf life time, maybe its because thay are builit better, maybe its just the downfall of the Wintel PC...but who cares, i love my Mac so much i think my PC will only ever be any good for Flight Simming, the Mac is now primarily for all my DTP, Photoshop, Website, Digital Video, Music work etc....now you try doing all of that simultaneously on a 64-Bit AMD 3.6GHz (single) processor, 800FSB machine with 4GB DDR400 memory, WinXP Pro w/sp1 and see the speeds. Pretty slow i'd imagine...Then try it on a dual 2GHz processor, dual independant 1ghz fsb, 8GB Dual Channel DDR400 (yep 8GB!!! - check apples website) machine and see how fast it is, blisteringly fast let me tell you

Damn, I picked a bad time to buy a new computer...
Suppose to be 16x agp motherboards in the second quarter of next year I read. This computer is going to be outdated and obsolete in 6 months!!!  Well, it allready is compared to thos macs that have been mentioned.  The only thing that holds me back from switching to mac is that most software and games are designed for windows then re-done for mac or not redone at all.
