Am I that out of touch ?....the only one of these names that strikes any sort of a chord with me it the video game....Atari.........I guess I don't follow music as much as I once did, but then most of the noise I hear these days doesn't adhere to the "rules" of "MUSIC"  Roll Eyes  as they were taught to me by my teacher back in school, but what did she know anyway?....she only played with the Toronto Symphony........ 8)

Forgot my list for ya........

Beatles
CSNY
CCR
ABBA

.............and any other group, which could put together a lead, rythymn, soft subtle base, and a decent drum beat, along with some vocal harmonies...........I guess that leaves out most of the current "new" stuff in the air.... Cry

Evanescense...now, I see your age Chadza (16) and think you are about to right age to like this rather "dark, gothic" group. I am, of course, sterotyping. I heard their song "Bring me back to life" on a local station. It took me about two weeks to get the name of the group, and than find out that O could see the video on my "in demand" music on the cable.
I have  bought the CD, and  recorded them on the show "Pepsi Smash" on the WB network. This group is really good.
BTW, I am 39 years old and like quite a few bands from the 50's and up

Let me see...

Limp Bizkit (the new album will rock this world!  F*ck the haters!!!)

Staind (they're so real)

Linkin Park (good, but the albums are too short...)

Limp Bizkit rocked Summer Sanitarium so hard!  Even the Metallica fans couldn't boo them!  They're not finished since Wes left...infact, they're just getting started! Tongue

Staind is good to listen to when you're feeling down, because then you realise that what's wrong with is nothing compared to Aaron Lewis's problems...LOL.

Mike Shinoda is so cool...really the only rapper I like, therefore I like Linkin Park.  Chester dropped his microphone on stage while singing at Summer Sanitarium...D'oh! Grin

Never heard of any of the bands mentioned. I thought they were video games. I'm a "Big Band" enthusiast which most of you were not around when these bands were hitting the airwaves and the dance pavillions. Ex:  Glen Miller, Stan Kenton, Benny Goodman, Artie Shaw, etc. I also like to dance to the "Salsa" music.

I'm a bit of a 70's & 80's rock/metal fan so my top bands are mostly from this period:
AC/DC
Rainbow
Whitesnake (old Whitesnake, not glam Whitesnake)
Dire Starits
Deep Purple
Iron Maiden
Guns 'N Roses

Loads of others that I like such as Aerosmith, Scorpions, Saxon, Black Sabbeth, but the ones above are my top favourites.

God help us!  Avril Lavigne as a top five?!  *Sigh*  There's no accounting for taste.  Cute girl, lost band.

Ozzy?  The Bloodhound Gang is great!

Favorite of all time for me would have to be Sublime, followed closely by Pink Floyd and The Beatles (White Album).  Oh, and Evanescense catches a close fourth.

LOL...No dude, that's not an odd combo.

I have been watching this topic since it was started trying to figure out how best to expose my choices in favorite music, I think I've figured it out.

First off, I can't say I have a favorite band because I listen to far too many different types of music, those that appeal less to me I may not listen to, but rarely do I put anyone down for the music they are playing because they are playing what they feel and as a musician I respect that.
I also don't agree with dissing someone because they don't listen to the same thing you do, everyone has different tastes and thats what makes us individuals.

Now, you want to see some odd combos? Here's some of my favorites, I say some because I couldn't possibly list everything I listen to, so I matched them in pairs to show the broad range of my musical preferences.

I like:
Tori Amos and Type O Negative
Snoop Dogg and Jewel
Johnny Cash and Cradle of Filth
Slayer and Shania Twain
Slipknot and The White Stripes
Gordon Lightfoot and Marilyn Manson
BeeGees and MudVayne
Britney Spears and Pantera
Pink Floyd and White Zombie
The Doors and Willie Nelson
Eminem and REO Speedwagon

I could go on for hours, I own thousands of different Cassettes, CD's and LP's, and there is something I like about almost everything I hear.
I also like Bluegrass, Mariachi, traditional Japanese instrumental, bagpipes, classical, and older country music.

It would be easier for me to list what I don't personally prefer:
Jazz: uuhmm...I just don't get it
Dance: you know.. that repetitive electronic crap..not for me
Country: Some of the real talented ones I can handle, like Vince Gill, but most of the new stuff sounds the same to me, I love the older stuff though, like Marty Robbins, Johnny Cash.

Music has so much to offer if you open your mind to the whole spectrum, most people limit themselves to what is cool at the moment, or the music they grew up with, and then put everything else down, which is sad because they are missing out on so much.
Not me! I'll discuss with Rifleman ABBA and the Beatles with just as much enthusiasm as I will Avril Lavigne with Polynomial or Guns and Roses and Iron Maiden with HawkerTempest5 or Glenn Campbell and Waylon Jennings with my Dad.

I may not like everything that a given band or musician records, but in my opinion there is usually something worth listening to by most every artist. As long as you keep an open mind.

I know what your saying.  I've listen to other types of music, just don't like it.  So I stick to what I like, the harsh Metal sound, and sometimes soothing sound of Classic Rock.  The classics can be heavy too.  But I love it heavy!   8)

  Heavy is good.

I really don't know anyone that is as diverse as I am when it comes to music, I'm sure there are others out there, but most people who know me just can't understand how I can be banging my head to Cradle of Filth one minute and then pop in Tori Amos right afterward.
Weird I know, but it's just the way I've always been.
