Hi all,

I'm an experienced simmer, but this one has me stumped.  Perhaps the answer is just too obvious.  I hope so.

I have fiddled with adjusting tower elevation at certain airports, mostly with success.  I usually raise the tower height to match the scenery OR to simply adjust it so that planes are visible from the tower without having buildings obstruct the view of the runways.

Two airports I have found (so far) don't cooperate.  I tried at Orly, and at O'Hare.  No effect.  I even changed the height to 10,000 feet, which should be well into the stratosphere.  Again, the same picture every time, a huge building blocking the runway view.  The tower "camera" still tracks the airplane, depending on its position, but does not raise above the building until the plane is well into the air.  Any thoughts?

Thanks,
Shaun

Shaun,

Interesting dilemna!  Here's what I found:

I created and saved a flight starting at KORD, changed the tower elevation in AFCAD, shutdown FS2002 and then saved the changes in AFCAD.  Then re-opened the same flight at KORD and encountered the same thing you did. When the plane was on the ground, the tower elevation was unchanged.  As the plane climbed, tower view followed along up until the tower elevation (1000 ft.) I had selected.

But, when I created another new flight starting at KORD and switched to tower view, I was looking at the aircraft from a vantage point of 1000 ft., reflecting the change in AFCAD.

So, I guess the moral of the story is to try creating a flight after changing the tower elevation in AFCAD instead of using a flight that was saved before the change was made!

Good luck!

AH HA! Thank you thank you thank you!!! I tried it and this worked.  What a weird quirk.  I also tried Orly, TA-DA! Way to go!  I wish I had thought of this! Thanks again!
