RTeading Graham Oxtoby's brief on animating propellers ..:

Quote:
A simple animated propeller with transparent discs is created as follows:

First create the propeller part (e.g. vertical tube flattened in Z-direction would suffice as an example) and texture the part. Name it PROP_STILL by selecting the appropriate tag from the AIRCRAFT STOCK ANIMATION tag list. Copy the part and name it PROP_SLOW. This completes the propeller animation.

Well not on my system. All done EXACTLY as stated, axis centred but when I export the model to FS2002 I get a motionless prop.

I also followed his article on animating rudder pedals. He states to form one part comprising 2 pedals & a crossbar. Joined as one & named 'lever_pedals_l_r'
But the part moves as one & not as he states.

I also keep getting DirectX error messages, 'Tell Microsoft' error where the program shuts down & 'Unable to resize part' if I switch from one program back into  FSDS.

.......  Cry

I can't answer the other questions but I use 4 separate parts for props. Assuming it's a single engined aircraft they are

1. The actual 3d stationary prop named prop0_still
2. A duplicate of # 1 named prop0_slow.
3. A transparent prop disk made from a disk named prop0_blurred
4. A duplicate of # 3 with flipped polys named prop0_blurred.1

Apply the prop texture to the front of both transparent disks.

1st I'm doing a Helo so things are slightly different..

I've done 3. Still, slow & blurred.

I presume prop, prop0, prop1 & prop2 are to enable up to 4 separate prop motions & with one prop you can just use 'prop_still' etc (no need to use 'prop0_still')

I'm thinking I've somehow corrupted my fsds2 - I'm getting errors & freezes every time just like I used to in the 1st version of FSDS before the upgrade.

I'm going to uninstall, clean up my system & reinstall & see if that helps.

Thanks

FS caters for up to 4 engines.
prop0 is Engine 1 & used for single engined aircraft. (I've never tried the prop_ option) The others will not work unless you're using a multi-engined AIR file. If you need more than one of any of the 3 options it will be automatically renamed prop0_still, prop0_still.1 prop0_still.2 etc.
You can change the suffix (after the period) to any suitable name or number.
