OK! Prop or Jets, Guns or Missiles, which do you, think should be the next Flight Sim they bring out? Either CFS 4 or LOMAC or what ever and why!  Sad

One rule on the thread however:  ???   This is an opinion no one needs to call anyone names if you do not agree with someone… . Just state your case...   Grin

Maybe someone will listen.

...............................................................................

Myself I like the Korean or Century jets as they used them up close and personal. Not like today at 60 + miles away. That is the one thing I don't like about them. I'm not saying that is not a good thing just that in a game with someone else it would get boring real fast. You know like overtime in a NFL (no fun league) Football game..  first one to score a point wins! Right on 57 yard field goals!...  makes it all worthwhile...   Undecided  Then why not do that the entire game then   ???

Yo Student,
Lately I've been hooked on 1930's aircraft, ya know fast bi-planes (almost 300 mph) and monoplanes with fixed landing gear.  Those pesky little aircraft were maneuverable as hell and some were very heavily armed, 50 cals. MGs and in some cases 20 mm cannon, could do alot of damage real fast.  For me nothing beats the thrill of trying to follow an I-15 through a split S!!
Also that period of time seems to have been over looked by many and aerial warfare in the skies over China and Spain forgotten, even though they set the stage for air combat in the Second World War.
Runner up is jets with GUNS.  These were the last of the gun slingers. Be it a Mig-15 against a F-86 or a F-8 Crusader vs. a Mig-17 the spirit of the "duel in the air" was there.
Either way its gotta be guns!  Missiles are to impersonal.

Denishc, You have a valid point.   8)   I have some of them there older flight sims for WW I and you are right them there more then one wing devils can turn. In the burn department they are a little slow however. (I think I could walk faster)  The one thing I noticed with them in a game is they seam to take so long to get from the air base to the war! No wonder they were stationed so close to the front!   Roll Eyes

I'm with you on the missiles, and that was the point with the NFL statement. It is not a game unless you are in the trenches slugging it out!   Wink

I personally prefer flying the early jets, I think a good Korean War sim would be nice, especially since Mig Alley is getting long in the tooth.

Why not come  back to the concept of the good old Dogfight from Microprose in the early 1990th. It can conciliate ancients and modern !

I like to have a broad collection of aircrafts, I enjoy with both sopwith and F15... Sometimes I would like avionics of modern aircraft to be more accurate by exemple with radar en ECM, but dogfight combat with guns only is more interressant, you need to be very smart to kill a very slow airplane with a modern fast aircraft in dogfight.

would like to have helos because i like ground attack and because it is a very different way to pilot.

Yo P4,
How about helo dogfighting!  Now there's a concept, I know some have talked about it but I've never seen it done.  Would it be like combat in zero g?

I'd like to see CFS4 as a cold war sim that takes place between 1945-1970. They should include aircraft like the Saber, Avro Arrow, Hawker Sea Fury, Avro Vulcan, MiG 15, odoo, P-80, etc. That way you'd get a healthy balace of prop and jet. I'd make the game dynamic like CFS3, it would start out historical but what you do effects the whole outcome of the war. For example, say your doing recon for the CCCP (USSR) and you accidentally blow up a US civilian target, this could lead to the US nuking Russia. The cold was is better the than late WWII environment of CFS3 because there were a million things that could have gone right/wrong.

Another thing that could happen is say your playing for Canada (Playable nations in my version would inculde US, Canada, UK, USSR, Korea, and Vietnam), in one game Canada might put the Arrow into production while it might not in another, make everything dynamic that's what people like. In my idea of CFS4, everything would be variable. We have the technology to do it so lets turn up the simulated heat on game play.

I only pretend to know what I'm talking about. Heck, that's what lawyers, car mechanics, and IT professionals do everyday. I think there should be a Gulf War Flight sim, with F-15, f-16, and Iraqi Jets. Or a WWI Sim, that would be NEAT!!

Yeah, a Korean War CFS4 sim would be pretty cool, considering the fact that props were also involved such as the P-51 (early  years), Corsair, Skyraider, oh, and of course--the B-29. A game with Sabres and Migs would be cool, with all that bombing and dogfighting that really took place during the war.

I like the idea of a cold war era sim that would span from Korea to Nam.  It could ber done in stages with the core releade being the Korean conflict and then the basic sim platform could be added to with expansion modules.  It should definatly have more accurate to life flight dynamics.  Microsoft needs to distance all their sims from the arcade/appeal to kids and everyone types.  They need to take a lesson from Austin Meyer.  X-plane dose have FAA pc training certifications because the dynamics are accurate.  System fideliity should get equally high attention. Every gauge, switch, button, and dial should be modeled and fully functional including radar operation.  Anyway, imagine doing a recon flight in a true-to-life "blackbird" model, working recon cam and all over the heart of russia and having to outrun sams @ FL 80 doing Mach 3.3? Sound like fun anyone?

I'd say the next CFS version to come out should be about the late Pacific theater during WWII.  The Corsairs would bew improved versions over CFS2 and the new product could also have Mustangs, as well as advanced versions of Jap planes and even some experimental types. Smiley

Microsoft would do well to come out with a Jet simulator separate from the CFS products.  I think it should include modern aircraft like the F-15, F-16, F-18 along with other American types and Russian planes like the SU-33, Mig-29, SU-27 and so on.  It could also have the Eurofighter, the Harrier, the Viggen, the Mirage...  maybe even the F-22 and the Joint Strike Fighter.  It could have missiles that lock on and the airplanes that FS2004 has for military jets could be used for the new Jet fighter simulator.  It wouldn't really be hard as all that would have to be done is take FS2004 and make it possible to shoot guns and missiles and the other things a fighter simulaotr would require for gameplay. Grin

I would hope that Microsoft would give it serious consideration!

I think it should be both.  They should move on to the korean war.  That way you could get your hands on some late model corsairs, or some f 86's!!!

I don't care what they make as long as the gameplay is good. I wish new games had good career modes like Sierra's original Red Baron.

I like the thought of a Korean War to Vietnam sim. Just imagine the possibilities for add-ons. There could be add-ons going all the way back to WWI and since it would already have the capability of Jets and missiles, you'd be able to create add-ons for the Gulf War forward.

i enjoy digfighting in props, because its more "personal" than shooting a plane down with a guided missile from 5 miles away. id like to see CFS4 as something from cold war as well, because it has a mix of both. i could also see something about the vietnam war, a good mix of old and new props and jets. (AD-1 skyraiders rock!) the migs, sabres, phantoms, etc were also a huge impact, plus, i think it would be fun to try to intercept a "Bear" to shoot down with a carrier based plane.-edit: yes, even a korean war sim would be an excellent idea, there isnt a huge following or understanding by a lot of younger folks about that war.

my biggest beef with jets in a flight sim, at least from M$, is that the planes arent accurate. C-130's, one F-14(mostly), and maybe another jet or two are accurate, but for the most part, theyre nothing like the real thing; acceleration, turn rates, roll rates, engine output, cockpit layout(in many cases), and a few other things. if im gonna fly a fighter, and im looking for realistic flight dynamics and input reactions, the fighters most folks design arent accurate. theyre fun to play with especially at low level, dont get me wrong, but theyre not realistic.

I"m a World war two guy. I love jets but my real love is prop since they wear more difficult to fly and where the original method use to fly. Its simply more fun. Jets are fun to fly too, but they do not have the romatic feeling that props give you.

I would like them to develope CFS4 to be base on the Pacific Theater since the European Theater is simple over done.

There are just to many European base Fligt Simulators and other pograms in the Market today. Its a little over done. It might turn some potential future Sim pilots off. How many times can you shot down the same enemy before it gets boring!

But I would like to be able to expanded it to other Theater as well. Like Europe in World  war two or  Korea and World war one plus the cold war and Modern times.
