Title: Is there an Osa's Ark for FS 2004?
Post by Jean Loup on Jan 3rd, 2013 at 7:28pm
I fly a Sikorsky S-38 in PanAm livery on FS 2004, but Osa's Ark blows my mind. There is a replica now resting in Germany sorry; in Aviodrome in Lelystad, Netherlands. If there is no model for FS 2004, do you have tutorials for doing a repaint? Muchas Gracias, Amigos!

Now: how do I reduce image size with these "[]" codes??

That one is actually in the US now. Kermit Weeks bought it, I have been following the progress of the shipping and re-assembly on facebook.

About getting a specific repaint, you could post a request in the repaint section or aircraft wanted section of the forums  ;)

Do you have a link ? I first saw the Flying Yatch in EAA videos about Oshkosh (oh, my Gosh!) when they were planing a South America trip. There is a sister ship "Spirit of Africa" with girafe skin patern & single engine: an S39. The modern replica/restoration is called "Spirit of Igor". http://www.spiritofigor.com/

OK, I will try that before doing a repaint: but do you know tutorials to repaint for FS 2004? I believe there is an S38 Oza's Ark for FS 2002, but I'm unable to find her. (the search part at Simviation is not working too good, eh?)

I can do the repaint on my own (have some photos & 3 views), canibalizing the PanAm version of FS 2004 but ... woult that be legal?
Gracias!

I decided to do my very first repaint, but instead of Oza's Ark, I went to work on a simpler (HÁ! thats a good one, folks! Simpler my ...) single engine S39SC (supercharged) "Spirit of Africa", canibalizing all sorts of addons for FS 2000/2002/2004. Funny about FS 2002: some addons work OK very well in FS 2004, others are a NONO. But adding the textures to an S39 in 2004, changing the aircraft.cfg to include more textures, seems like a jiffy! (HÁ! that's another good one! A jiffy ... cómo no!) The problem is that this texture is for another model. So I adapted to another model. BUT, things started getting strange ...

I have done animation work, in 16 mm. format, adapting a Bolex (the DC-3 of 16mm cameras: or the VW, as we say in México) on amakeshift pole where it would run up & down, shooting the drawings on the floor. Focusing (non reflex camera) had to be done with a prism & jewelers glass, looking through the objective from the film plate, with camera open & no film. Well, that was easy compared to this repaint! Not that difficult: one only has to stay on the dot for 24 hours, no meals & lots of beer, for at least 3 days.

Not difficult, but laberintical. Now, this is for my learning & private use ONLY: not for sharing UNTiL I get the knak on this matter, and consult with the original designers (mainly for HELP! &) for ageements. I have Vista OS, using Paint from microsoft to change colors & do spots, lots of copy/paste & beer (I do not want to dehidrate!) plus photos & three views that, luckily, have the Federal Standard 595 color codes. Another good tool is Color Cop.

When the "Spirit of Africa" started looking good (the colors where not the originals, and matching the top textures with the sides, has to be sorted out well, before atemting Oza's Ark. The spots of the girafe skin cover irregularities, that will be very very obvious on the zebra skin) & flying well, I shot this images from my FS 2004:

Actually, it is more a "Spirit of Igor" than a "Spirit of Africa", because of the engine cowling. Ni modo ... (the model is with a cowling)

There is green inside the radial engine, and the front hull top is squewed, above the S of Spirit, where it says DANGER. I have no idea how to correct the model.

Some girafe skin is painted inside the rear hatch, open in flight here. I am not too happy about that strange nose ... have to work more on this.

I must say, there is a hole in the hull: the pilot is swiming at the controls! after a perfect aqualanding. Some panels do not blend correctly, but I believe that's a model issue... Are there any tutorials for correcting models?

Another thing I found, is that the VARNEY (NC55V) texture, comes in oxide red colors; the three views come in blue! One says 1932, the other 1933. Maybe they changed colors before becoming United Airlines.

Hasta la Vista, mis Voladores!

That looks great!! I would love to fly that!! I hope you eventually release it! You have done a great job!! One thing you could try with the strange dange sign is use you giraffe colors and blend them over the top of the danger sign. Best regards, Jeremy  :)

Working on this: never done this kind of things. The model is not mine, just shuffled textures & aircraft.cfg files, reworking them with Paint & Notebook (using Vista OS), of "Spirit of Africa" downloads, here at SimViation, for FS 2000, FS 2002, FS 2004 & FSX.

When I sort out everything, I will contact the designers for guidance in uploading her. Gracias for encouraging me!
