The first Mosquito flight for 16 years and 68 days. Hard to believe it's that long since RR299 crashed at Barton.

Great to see. It shows what can be done when the right engineering talent has financial clout behind them. I doubt we'll see another in a hurry. :)

My thoughts exactly Matt!
Although I love radials, kind of hard to argue with TWO Merlins!

Imagine if they'd "done a Mustang" with the P-38 too. :o :)

The reporter seems shocked that grown men got watery eyes...uuhh miss, its a MOSQUITO with TWO MERLINS!!!
OF COURSE WE ARE GOING TO CRY (A BIT)!!!!
;D

Seriously though, I do get a little watery seeing and hearing such a special warbird fly. What can I say? Im a little nostalgic!

They did make a twin Mustang. My boss got invited to check out the XP-82 Twin Mustang restoration project. Those mad men are actually working on getting it into FLYING condition! I have never heard of ANY Twin Mustang flying anywhere today, let alone a XP-82.

Well it sounds like there will be another month at least before it ships. So you 'kiwis' have some time yet to reflect on your amazing work before us Yanks get to drool over it. around it.  ;D

What a sound.
Those two sensible merlins really kick ass when adjusted.
Thanks for sharing.

Yeah, the last airworthy P-82 was with the CAF in the late 80s (1987 is had a little mishap and I don't think has flown since).

After my comment about the P-38, I had a look about Merlinned-Lightnings. I was apparently considered, but I think there were several factors in the aircraft retaining Allisons. Firstly Merlins were in short supply. Secondly the P-51 was doing nicely as the main escort fighter in the ETO. Finally, the P-38's performance was more than adequate, and they were split fairly evenly between ETO and PTO. :)
