Title: Around the World Club - Flight Challenge
Post by stuartpb on Aug 29th, 2012 at 5:09pm
I'm not really sure this is where I should be posting, but here goes.

Since I started flying on sims, I've always wanted to fly around the world in light aircraft. Getting off the beaten track and taking in the different scenery. I've always had an excuse not to do so though, until now. I finally decided to give it a go. That lead to me needing to create a website where I can document the challenge progress. So I built a site based on phpVMS, and ordered a custom KACARS package for the ACARS and auto PIREP submission. As I got further into building the site, I thought that seeing as the functionality was already there, why not open it up for any other pilots who may be interested in completing the challenge. So I have. Here's how it works:

Pilots sign up, and are classed as prospects.
They can drop in or out of the challenge as and when they please. There is no time limit on how long it takes to complete, and there are no minimum flight hours rules etc.
Pilots have to fly the flights in the correct order, starting with the first and finishing on flight 147.

  • There are currently 3 light aircraft to choose from: Mooney M20 Bravo, Cessna 208B Grand Caravan and Beechcraft Baron 58.
  • Pilots must use KACARS for flight logging and PIREP submission. A free copy is given to all members.
  • Pilots are free to fly with other challenges or VAs as they wish.
  • If a pilot completes the challenge successfully, they earn full membership in the club, with privileges (got to work out what exactly though yet)
  • Pilots can fly offline or online, it's up to them.
Pilots can use their own routes, as long as they log them in KACARS

I basically want the challenge to be a relaxed affair, without a boat load of rules that detract from the fun. I'm around 70% of the way to finishing the website, with around a weekends work left on it. If anyone is interesting in joining in, then please do feel free to register. The website addy is:

    aroundtheworldclub.co.uk

I'd be more than happy to chat to anyone about the challenge who may want to find out more.

    Thanks,

    Stu

Done this myself already, in the Baron 58.  It didn't take me 147 legs, so your route must visit a lot of places I didn't go.  Gonna go sign up now!

Uhhhhm... your site no longer up?  Looks like a blank page.
