Title: Aerial Decisions...
Post by Fozzer on Aug 25th, 2012 at 11:18am
Its 4:00 PM in the late August afternoon, and I'm sitting here in my living room, looking at a massive array of huge, bright white, (and black), Towering Cumulus Clouds, in a bright blue sky outside, with a stiff NW breeze blowing.
OAT (ground)=  20*C
Barometric Pressure= 1005, and slowly dropping.
I'm sat between a rapidly moving high and low pressure region.

...and I'm thinking to myself, would I be wise to venture outside, anywhere near those clouds, in my little Sim Cessna 150?
..or stay safely on the ground, until tomorrow?

Paul....FS 2004....and an enthusiastic weather-watcher!... :)...!

Stay on the ground ! There's a reason those clouds are towering, and the nearby atmosphere is along for the ride  :D

Your stiff wind will become "shifty", and low level wind shear is likely  :o

Venture too near those towers, and you might find yourself climbing at 4000fpm, while nose-down at full power   :'(

Never fear, Brett...Wise advice!... ;)...!

Safe terra-firma for me, as always, till it all passes over!... :)...!

I cringe every time I see the our lads dancing around some of those dangerous-look clouds in their (amazing) screen-shots, not realising the dangers held within....(and without!)... ;)...!

I have a great respect for;...."Weather"...(Motorcyclist's golden rule..one of many!)... ;)...!

I get to make these decisions every day... which is a fun part of my job.  99% of the time, we go.  Just another day dodging prairie thunderstorms!   Not trying to sound invincible... if it's really bad out there, then we won't go.  8-)

Hi Wade... :)

Can count the number of flights on one hand we aborted in the weather office or base camp.

Most were at the top end of Hudson Bay and in the winter.

Being a real aviator and Captain yourself you understand the old sayings very very well....

It is better to be down here...
Wishing you were up there...
than
Up there...
Wishing you were down here...

Say Wade, have not seen any pictures of your trips lately or my beloved DeHavilland DHC-3 Radial Engine Otter I know you have out there... ;D    ;)
