Title: F/A-18 2012 Redux Package uploaded by Justin "Jimi" Hendrix

Anyone else notice that when you install the F/A-18 into FSX, all appears normal except that the aircraft itself is invisible? At least it is for me, using FSX-SP2, Windows 7, 64 bit. I can see the strobes, engine smoke, high-g vapor, etc., but, unfortunately, no aircraft! I wanted to let Justin "Jimi" Hendrix know, but he did not include any contact information in his upload. Pity. Looked like a fun airplane to fly, but I guess we'll never know!

Yes I have the same problem too. But some models do appear some dont. I have installed mine manually because I like to see whats going in the game. I have also cut down half the file size by deleting most of the textures. Dont know if that has anything to do with my problem. Did keep the primary texture folder and about 10 textures.

The reason the plane doesn't work for you is because Mr Hendrix Aliased the Model to the FSX Acceleration FA-18.

So you would need Acceleration for this plane to work.

Also Mr Hendrix didn't include a readme file in the file.

As far as my deal goes, I do have acceleration sp2 gold edition. Wonder if the other guy has it.

There are two models. The "D" model is aliased to CS_FA-18D which I assume is the Captain Sim F/A-18D.

The Main Texture folder doesn't add any repaints to the planes, it is only a fall back so all the textures can use the files in it without each having all the textures in their own folder.

To Quote FSDeveloper

I too have run into the stealth mode of invisibility. I have a choice of four aircraft from the Apr 14, 2012 download - F/A-18_FX, F/A-18_MP, F/A-18D_FX, F/A-18D_MP. They all are invisible except for the strobe light flashes and A/B. Only the HUD graphics are visible inside. I am running FSX with the acceleration pack on Windows 7. As was mentioned, it does sound like an interesting plane when it works.

I already explained the reason for this. There are two models in the package, the F/A-18 & F/A-18D.

The F/A-18 is aliased to use the Acceleration visual model. Basically it's a repaint of the MS default aircraft with a number of variations. Providing you have Acceleration installed & the aircraft from the Redux package installed to the SimObjects\Airplanes directory it should work.

The D variant is aliased to use the model of the Captain Sim F/A-18D which is payware. If you haven't got the Captain Sim F/A-18D installed the visual model can't display.

This is the MDL of FSX Aceleration Hornet F-18

we are just talking about  repaints here ,Not Models

hagar, alrot, you were absolutely right and when I re-read the posts, I realized what it was - operator error. I had removed the Acceleration F/A-18 because I thought it might be in contention with the new install (I've had it happen before). But when I put back the original F/A-18 folder, it worked just as you described. Thanks for your insight.
