Title: Mass Effect 3
Post by matthewdev on Mar 13th, 2012 at 8:47pm
Has anyone bought this game yet? I tried the demo and it looks quite engaging. Anyone have opinions on whether the game is worth it?

Well due to the meme effect I can infer that the ending sucks...   ;D

My brother is playing it now on his PS3. From what I saw of the begining it looks pretty good. I didn't play the other 2 so I dunno. I'm actually looking forward to the new Assassin's Creed III in June, Just got the Game Informer. Taking place during the Revolutionary war. Screenies are very tantilizing 8-)

Haven't got to the ending yet (which I heard some bad things about), but so far, I am greatly enjoying the game.  Some of the scenes are much more moving than the previous games.

Multiplayer is ridiculously addictive as well.

Well I ended up getting it too, and am loving it so far. I'm a little apprehensive about the ending however - I really hope it doesn't ruin the game!

So far it has improved on the previous game in almost every way :)

Well, I finished the game.  And I saw the YouTube clip you provided.

I didn't feel terribly irked by the ending.  I think there is plenty of validity in that the ending creates a few plot holes and that parts of the ending cut scene doesn't make a whole lot of sense, but it could have been a lot worst.  It could have been cheesy, instead of mere non-sensible.

I'd prefer an alternate ending, personally, but the ending in itself wasn't bad to the point that I would never replay the game kind of deal.  The final battle and the climax that lead to the ending was pretty top notch.  It was only the final choice and cutscene that confused me a little (last 5 minutes).  That, and the final words that tells me to buy more DLC, which is probably the most disgraceful words I've ever seen from the gaming industry.

But really, I enjoyed the game.

I completely agree with you that up to the last 5-10 minutes I found the game extremely enjoyable and the ending wouldn't stop me from replaying the series a couple years from now. However that said the ending did leave a bad taste in mouth especially with the information they have released about what they cut from the game because of it "being to much information for the player to process". :-? :-/

Well having gone a bit further along now (not up to the ending yet) I am finding the galactic readiness system quite annoying. To get your invasion force up to strength there is a choice between A: playing the multiplayer excessively (which for me I haven't found particularly engaging) or B: doing heaps of side quests which are rather lame. Mostly consisting of finding random artifacts for equally random people.

My final complaint is the whole system of your military strength as it's not very intuitive and requires a fair bit of extra knowledge about the game in order to work properly.

I am not writing the game off, I have been enjoying the main parts quite a lot but there are these little annoyances too...

Yeah wasn't a big fan of the whole random artifacts for random people either (they did the exact same thing in Dragon Age 2!  >:().  Made no sense.  I'll take scanning planets for resources any day  :P.

I wouldn't get too worked up about the galactic readiness though.  As long as you get it reasonably high, I don't think it would make much difference in the end.

Same publisher... Coincidence?

I have finally finished, I tried really hard to appreciate the ending, and I can deal with most of the parts of the ending but it was the catalyst 'ghost' that was the final straw that ruined it for me - just made no sense at all  >:(

Its SPPPAACCCEEEE MAAAGGGGICCC.... It doesn't have to make sense. But seriously apparently they came up with ending from a leader some 13 year old set them    :-/ I wish I was making this up.

I heard it was written by the lead writer and director without the rest of the writers reviewing the work.

sorry what meant is that a 13 year old child sent them a letter saying that the ending of the 3rd game should have a kid involved. the lead writers to ran with this idea. the source is the official making of ME3 app on itunes.

Ah I see.  Well, that's silly.  In any case, it was announced today that Bioware is releasing a DLC to hopefully explain a few things sometime this summer.  It'll be free.  I don't think they will get rid of the starchild, but might be something to look into.

I sure hope you're right... Unfortunately it was the starchild more than anything else that ruined it for me, so unless they manage to fix that up it won't make heaps of difference IMHO  ::)
