Title: Love it or leave it Post by Groundbound1 on Feb 29th, 2012 at 10:34am
Even though I have no interest in trying it, I'd still like to know what other Simmers think about it.

I think the poll is very extreme... I don't think either of it. I'm not impressed by the game, but I know that it will expand and become a lot more. So the future may be promising, but I'm not convinced for now.
I'll keep it because it's doing no harm to keep it, and some of the missions can be fun... But it isn't a sim (not that anyone thought otherwise) |

Good point. Judging from what I've read so far, most people either love it or hate it. (That was the reason for only the two choices.) I've added a third. Kinda just wanted to have one thread solely for first impressions. ;) |
Title: Re: Love it or leave it Post by Flying Trucker on Feb 29th, 2012 at 12:43pm
HMMM...I did not get it downloaded...
It asked for: -telephone number -street address -etc...etc If it is Free why do they need that information? If I want to purchase or add to it then that would be different but being a Free Download...no way... :) |
Title: Re: Love it or leave it Post by Stubbedtoe18 on Feb 29th, 2012 at 1:08pm
Just so you know, having this poll not show the results until "all of the results are counted" helps absolutely no one. What's the point of keeping the tally hidden when it is useful information to have when people are trying to decide whether or not to download the game?
That being said, if it's out of your control then my bad but if it is could you change that option? Pleeaasseeee |

Thanks man, sorry for being rude about it.
I gotta say I'm excited. It's in the process of connecting to my Xbox Live account which I did not even anticipate was going to be a feature. Thankfully I also have my joystick with me here at school. I'm hoping for the best! |

You require a 'Live' account to sign in, so that's what that's for. They do have a free service (silver) and the full service (gold)... So it's just incase you want to purchase anything or upgrade your account. I'm not sure if your Hotmail ID would work either, if you have one of those (for MSN Messenger and the such). It will only take a few minutes to do, I've had mine for the best part of a decade, so I can just sign in. Perhaps not worth it for Flight, but GFWL does offer some good games... I was able to get Age of Empires III for a quid ;D |
Title: Re: Love it or leave it Post by andy190 on Feb 29th, 2012 at 2:50pm
I just want to clear this up for everybody. Flight is fun but it's not a sim & it's not a game either.
It's about 80% Game 20% sim. Flight is not going to replace FSX. The payware Maule for it, while it looks nice is not up to FSX payware quality freeware standards, and I believe that the Maule is the best aircraft in Flight. Also FSX aircraft aren't compatible. To Quote David Brice: Quote:
I'm not "Hating" Flight I'm just informing everyone that it's not a Sim. |

It is what it is, but it's not what we wanted. I don't really know any generation of gamer who would want it. The achievements seem to limit the possibilities to just Hawaii, so it feels like a one island deal. Heck, when I fly on FSX I usually travel miles between islands (England onto Europe) :P |
Title: Re: Love it or leave it Post by Zaku on Feb 29th, 2012 at 5:57pm
Meh. It's free, I can't complain too much. And it's still a sim with pretty realistic flight dynamics once you enable all of the realism settings. The missions capture the feel of GA pretty accurately.
I get enough of GA in real life, though. I want (free, third party) jet fighters. :/ Being able to edit textures like those godawful clouds would be nice, too. |
Title: Re: Love it or leave it Post by Groundbound1 on Feb 29th, 2012 at 6:03pm
Again, speaking based only on what I've seen and read, it seems as though the designers got into a sort of "tug-of-war" between making Flight a sim or a game. Seeing what was released, apperently, it was a draw. If they had gone harder in one direction, OR the other, it might have been better.
Picture it: Reno! There you are, a beginner to the racing circuit. Your goal is to win races, win prize money, gain xp, "soup-up " your aircraft, win more money ect. Sort of a "Gran Tourismo" for the air. THAT, I might have paid for. |

It vaguely touches on that. There are a few missions where you must fly through goals within a time limit. Fast fast, flow low... Go left, right, up and down! I think you can fly those missions on multiplayer.... |

I give it a "Meh". It seems to me that it is waaaaaay toooo restrictive to what I like.
|
Title: Re: Love it or leave it Post by andy190 on Feb 29th, 2012 at 7:00pm
I also give it a "Meh". It's a good game but not a sim which is what we wanted it to be.

Title: Re: Love it or leave it Post by Stubbedtoe18 on Feb 29th, 2012 at 10:24pm
Having played it I love the game. It performs much better on higher settings than FSX does. It's also very easy to use in terms of the map, I cannot believe all of the crap it's getting from people.
That being said, this game will be WAY too damn expensive to maintain or keep interesting with the current lack of free user material and only two planes being offered standard (I have a Live account of course, what a great feature to have this integrated). I don't want to have to pay significant amounts of money to get a single plane beyond the two originals, that is outrageous. |
Title: Re: Love it or leave it Post by andy190 on Feb 29th, 2012 at 11:07pm
It's a game not a Sim, if you are a Hard-core Simmer you should know that. I have never said Flight is no good I just said it's not a Sim.

Well Chums... ::)...
I picked a quiet time this morning when all our American friends were tucked up safely in bed, and downloaded, and installed the program quite quickly, with no problems... First impressions.... Far too; "Organised" for my liking! I am being "controlled" by an extremely annoying female Instructor, being told what to do, and when to do it, when all I want to do is; "free flight" where I want to go, and what I want to do!...(like the the other MS Flight Sims). Its a totally different experience to what we have been used to, in all the other versions of the MS Flight Sims. Different Flight Sims for different Flight Sim "types".... ;)...! Anyway...I've tried out out..so that's sorted...now back to normal.. ;)... ;D...! Paul...FS 2004... :-*...! Flight = Wipeout... Wipeout ...but in an aeroplane! I suspect that the Microsoft Programmers have done a very good job of providing a; "Flying Game" for "Gamer-types". If they are generally interested in proper Flight Sims, they may migrate to FSX, etc.. ;)...! |
Title: Re: Love it or leave it Post by expat on Mar 1st, 2012 at 10:02am
Personally, I think it will die a slow but quiet death. The gamers will get tired of it as you cannot kill/shoot anything and the true simmers will get fed up with having to buy, buy, buy to literally get anywhere. I think it is a huge opportunity missed. So lets all meet back here this time next year and see where it is at, or not as the case may be :-/ :-/

Title: Re: Love it or leave it Post by ramjet2 on Mar 1st, 2012 at 6:45pm
I just downloaded it to my Asus 73W laptop. It looks good but I flew horribly using a mouse and trying to push the nose down by pulling back, just the opposite of my yoke.
After a few "missions" I understand I will be able to do freeflights and be more immersed and get to fly alone. I agree that this is game-like but it is a well crafted game and is stage one. Too tame for kids and to automatic for simmers, the target group appears to be casual players and those who will use it on a pad or phone to kill time. I don't think I'll hang up the ol' FSX yet. As another wise member said, " make your buying decisions for the next few years of enjoyment because flight simming as we know it may not be around in five years. Cal |
Title: Re: Love it or leave it Post by Steve M on Mar 1st, 2012 at 7:05pm
My vote was mehh.. I once said in another thread I would wait to download it until I heard from others who had. Some say Flight has promise, but give it time to morph into a better game, as MS develops more options. So.. that is the approach I'm taking, I'll wait a few more months. ;)

Title: Re: Love it or leave it Post by Fozzer on Mar 2nd, 2012 at 12:11pm
For some magic reason I managed to get into "Free Flight", and get the Map, maybe because I had successfully completed the first task.... ::)....
...anyway... I thought I would try a careful landing in a clear space, in a field, with the wheels down, (like we do in our usual Flight Sims)... It didn't seem to work. (It buried itself into the ground scenery!). It looks as though we always have to land on a proper airfield runway! ..so no off-airfield, countryside explorations?.... :'(...! Another noticeable thing...the ground is very "Blurry" at low level, even at maximum graphics settings...MUCH worse than our FS9/FSX Sims...(which are very good). Paul...Still experimenting!... ;)... :)...! |
Title: Re: Love it or leave it Post by andy190 on Mar 2nd, 2012 at 3:16pm
Yes Fozzer I also noticed that the ground textures were blurry & unless MS fix it it's going to stay like that. :-/

Title: Re: Love it or leave it Post by hyperpep111 on Mar 2nd, 2012 at 3:58pm
I haven't tried it yet cause internet speeds are currently slow (and slow as in 100kbps Max) due to fibre optic cable issues. ::)
But what I've read here is preety scary. Too organized, For Fozzer?! Is that really even possible :o? |
Title: Re: Love it or leave it Post by Fozzer on Mar 2nd, 2012 at 4:05pm
As well as the "Flight" icon on my desktop..
...I've also got FS 2002, CFS 2, FS 2004, and FSX icons on there, as well... So plenty of flying to choose from...all installed on my C Hard Drive!... [smiley=thumbsup.gif]...! Paul...so many sims...so much fun!... ;D...! |
Title: Re: Love it or leave it Post by expat on Mar 3rd, 2012 at 2:22pm
Download time was quite a while. Installation was painless. Flew the first two missions then went free flight for 30 minutes or so.
The graphics are very disappointing , blurry at low level even though all sliders are max'd. Bridges with no roads to or from them. Roads that are a dirty smudge and vague. On a plus side I did not find any building or trees next to or in the middle of a runway ;D. I think that the water is the best I have ever seen, but the water effect of the water spray on the seaplane is at best pants! As for the aircraft itself, the graphics in FS98 are better. Buy Hawaii, no chance if this is the best they have to offer. A HUGE opportunity missed, not a Sim that will interest the "real simmer" and nothing to shoot at for the gamer. It has already been removed from my hard drive. Sorry MS, 4/10 see me after class :( Matt |

Just had a another look, regarding the "blurry-ness" of the ground textures at ground level, making it difficult to estimate the height from the ground when landing.... I managed to land my aircraft on the "grass", but it takes a while for the scenery texture to catch up, before the grass appears correctly! When it does, its OK! (I suppose I just need a faster processor!)... ;)...! (But the ground still looks blurry from the air, with very little detail!). Paul... 8-)....! |

That statement right there is the honest Truth right there , and that is how its going to go down to ~ ! Why they even made a boring game like that with NO Jets, that can fire weapons, or Dog Fight, No Heli's to play James Bond with and shoot who knows what, NO Aircraft Carriers or Subs to play with, and only Hawaii ??? So, like I can't get 10 or 15 of you on here and Fly on up to say,,,,, Alaska in Flight ?? or say maybe - New Zealand ?? Gesshh wonder if you can even get to Maui ?? Lord, 15 - 20 years from now, we all may be looking back on this moment, tho highly doubtful we'll still be in touch with each other ?? Flight Sim could end up like Twister or that yeard game Darts by then,, what we will think of ourselves then for wasting all the time we wasted on this Flying stuff ?? I think, I'll be taking a whole lot of screen shots here shortly of ALL my Aircraft and printing them off on photographic paper to remember what we used to have fun with and archive it somehow in photo books. I know download them to the internet to some sight somewhere, nope, you can't even trust those sight will even be around 15 - 20 years from now or sell out and then close down, so there just went your photos, put them on a CD/DVD maybe if all that don't change too like the 8-track tape & cassette , plain ol' paper / photo paper will keep for a long time just like my parents photos from the 1930's,, can't trust technology , but I can trust paper, barring a Fire / Flood !! :-X :-X :-X |

Hehe, yup.
Surprised that many people voted quite frankly. Minus the few holdouts who still want to believe Flight is some kind of ultra realistic flight sim with a huge future as such, I suspected there wasn't going to be that much traffic in here after the first few days of release. The fact that 57% voted has strongly to the no as they did says quite a bit. From the looks of this poll, and reviews/comments on the net at large, it's probably safe to say that even if Flight survives the comming months, the strategy going forward isn't going to focus much, if at all, on the type of simmer commonly found on sites such has SimV. |
