Title: Mitch sparked my intrest again...
Post by skoker on Oct 24th, 2011 at 3:18pm
Lets see if anyone can tell what it is, but I highly doubt it since its fairly new and there is literally no detail right now.

If anyone wants to help/has experience in gmax/3ds with texturing send me a message.  I would like some help with this. ;)

Also Mitch...  can you teach me how to export properly for FSX? :)

This is the first export so I have a lot of cleaning up to do... ;D

Wow, glad to see your back into it Jordan. Its a great feeling seeing something you work on actually in the sim. And I'm sorry. ;D

If you can see the model in the sim then it has exported just fine. ;)

Perhpas an Embraer Phenom 300?

Its actually going to be a Hawker 4000.

And I ask how to export because I exported as a Fs9 model and I want to make it a FSX native model...  which I don't quite know how to do. ;)

Also here is a new render:

Looks nice, but you might want to take care of the dark edges on the wing. They're usualy caused by the wing having a very proeminent edge separating the bottom wing from the top wing. That's solved with using prevent indirect smoothing and autosmooth on the smooth modifier.

I still need to cut out the flap parts and such, hopefully I can do that soon and fix it.

Yeah, I'm going to need a lot of help with that, and probably the animating too.  (I can model just not animate yet) ;D

In that case, you will need to use the FSX supplied Gmax within the SDK. Then just export as an .mdl and it will give you a bunch of options to choose such as DDS textures or BMP textures. If all goes well and no problems occur during the export process it should be a native FSX model, check in FSX if the model has self-shadowing. :)

BTW, looking good. 8-)

I've tried to install the FSX gmax but it doesn't like me and will only give me the FS9 options.  I have no idea on how to fix it.  Anyone have an idea or just wants to send me theirs?   :)

ok ,I'm sure you are in Windows 7 ,I'm on Xp :Make sure you have added the Gmax pack inside Gmax gamepacks like this  (Gmax gamepack is in  the SDK)

To export a model first you got to give it a Friendly name, like this

Good news: It's now FSX native! :D

Bad news: Smoothing issue...   :-/

Actually its a format error...  I found the fix here:
http://www.fsdeveloper.com/forum/showthread.php?t=110116

Thanks anyway Alex, you help is greatly appreciated. :)

I would like to tart texturing though.  If you have any tutorials for that or can teach me on how you do it I would appreciate it as well.  I've textured boxes and stuff like that before but when you get to the complex model it Is way different. ;D

Also how to  make mirrored things not be invisible?  (I'm such a noob! lol ;D)

No problems exporting on my end Alex.

See here (first export early build) and here (later build)

Jordan, you might want to change the title of this thread for more exposure. ;)

Any solution? ;D

You mirrored the fuselage using that godforsaken button didn't you? Shame on you... You should have used the mirror modifier... If that's not the problem try using the normals modifier and flip the normals on that side...

Great looking plane :o. I'll probably never get to that level of degree so Perhaps I should start blabbing about textures ;D ;D ;D ::).
And Xpand, Can He use Ctrl+Z?

xpand is right, BTW what airplane is this?

He can just delete the bad faces and mirror the fuselage again, this time using the mirror modifier...

or in Modifiers search for Mesh Editing/normal/flip normals , I think you already said that , there are many ways LOL but its looking great, isn't it?

Hawker 4000. Coming along very nicely Jordan, the cabin door is on the other side but you already knew that. ;D

Really?!?! :o :o :o ;D

Two more for the night/morning.  These are just common textures for now.  Hopefully I will split them soon but I'm having a problem now with the way they are being mapped....  I don't quite know how to explain it... :-/

I suggest you finish the whole basic plane, before mapping it seriously (The fuselage and wings, including the stabs and other details, with all the doors, windows, gear wells and such cut). Then take a picture of left, right, top, bottom depending of the part you want to map, for example the fuselage you need just the left and right side. If you want more detail you can also take a pic at the flat bottom parts. Then just paste everything in a texture sheet and try to preserve space, or not if you have no trouble in using multiple texture sheets, but try to put stuff as close as possible with no big white spaces in between.

To map the fuselage just map the first side, it can be left or right. Then select the polys of the oposite side and, with those selected, add a uvw map modifier and make it square, then add a uvwunwrap modifier and place the polys on their correspondent space.

Ah, and take the pics in orthogonal views, not perspctive otherwise they won't fit the model when you try to map it.
