Post by cantflywontfly on Sep 18th, 2011 at 4:22pm
RaptorF22... 03rd Oct!!!

Welcome all to this weeks JC contest!

RaptorF22 takes a seat on the judges bench this week,
and earned his spot with this shot :

And for the theme we’re going from "737's" to...

"The Cold War!!"

Judge RaptorF22 says:

"Anything having to do with the Cold War. Looking forward to seeing some great shots this time around!

Freeware, Payware, and Editing allowed!"

THIS WEEK'S OTHER RULES, please read for deadlines

1. There can be freeware & payware in the shots, Any Flight Sim, Any Version. Editing and composites are allowed!

2. You nominate one shot only, without image tags so the thread limit doesn’t get hammered. Or, if you prefer, a thumbnail of about 5 kb. IT CAN BE AN OLD SHOT if you don’t have time to create something especially for the comp, though original entries are encouraged.  Post it in this thread, below.

3. Once an entry is submitted, it may not be changed or replaced with a different one.  This is to keep the confusion to a minimum, and to maintain forum integrity.  Entries may be withdrawn from the contest, but no additional entries from that member will be accepted.

DEADLINE for submission of shots is 8 PM EST on monthursfriwednesday 3rd of October,

4. The judge will choose which shot is best and tell myself as soon as possible "please try to remember"

DEADLINE FOR JUDGE TO INFORM : 'once the judge has made up his/her mind!!'

THE WINNER IS THE NEXT JUDGE!

And, your winning shot goes into the Personal Portfolios!

5. The winner should decide on the next competition, and tell me by (INSERT RANDOM DAY HERE), send four pics, plus a short text to describe the competition and what they are looking for.

6. This is for fun,  so just post whatever seems to you to fit the rules.

It might be an idea to check out our Judge's work, see what he likes....

Good luck to all, thanks for looking, and dont forget to spread the word about this competition!!

Cheers, good luck all, Deano :)

Good theme, but difficult for me since I tend to lean towards defualt.
But I ought to be able to get something out of it.  Since there's a carrier shot shown, I think I'll be able to get something good.

RaptorF22, I noticed while searching for the aircraft used in the cold war that the Douglas A-1 Skyraider had been used, but it didn't mention the douglas A-1H Skyraider which is what my grandfather flew, and that the CV-62 USS Independence was also used, which is the main Carrier he also flew off of.  Even though the  A-1H wasn't used and only the A-1 was, would I be allowed to use the A-1H?

I like how it kinda pops outta the picture. Assumed most would post US aircraft so i figured i'd be different :)

Freeware Su-27 with REX2 and Enbseries.

Great Shot!  I just love those ones that jump out!  Good livery to match too. ;)  And very nice touch on the edges. ;)

Sukhoi!  (I think I spelled it right)  I remember having I'm pretty sure that exact thing for FS9, but then when I re-installed my FS9 due to WAAAAYYYYY too many add-ons on it, I couldn't find it again.  It was a nice aircraft too.
But now I have the model name, I should be able to find it again. :)

me too, but even if I can't use the A-1H, The FA-18 was used, so I can use my default FSX Acceleration one.  I'll probalby be able to get enough research done and get the shot in time. :)

The cold war was from 1946 to 1991. So even the spitfire and the P-51 can be used :)

Oh wow. I read this yesterday and I was really exausted. So I missed the whole thing apart from the a-1h thing. Reading with my eyes half closed :( :-[.
But Thanks allot guys :D I actually had a whole story to tell with it but I didn't think anyone wanted to read a boring made up story About a Cessna pilot  :-/.
But I seriously tried to make this look like an late 1970's photo. And had a little inspiration from the wonderful photo above me 8-).
You should have seen me scattering to upload the photo so I wouldn't risk anyone taking the Swedish theme. I almost cried when the Image uploader was down ;D ;D.
Aaaand I'm ranting again :-X

The Convair F-102 Delta Dagger was a US interceptor aircraft built as part of the backbone of the United States Air Force's (USAF) air defenses in the late 1950s. Entering service in 1956, its main purpose was to intercept invading Soviet bomber fleets. Designed and manufactured by Convair, 1,000 F-102s were built.
A member of the Century Series, the F-102 was the first operational supersonic interceptor and delta-wing fighter of the USAF. It used an internal weapons bay to carry both guided missiles and rockets. As originally designed, it could not achieve Mach 1 supersonic flight until redesigned with area ruling. The F-102 replaced subsonic fighter types such as the Northrop F-89 Scorpion, and by the 1960s, it saw limited service in the Vietnam War in bomber escort and ground-attack roles. It was supplemented by McDonnell F-101 Voodoos and, later, by McDonnell Douglas F-4 Phantom IIs. Many of the F-102s were transferred to United States Air National Guard duty by the mid-to-late 1960s, and the type was retired from operational service in 1976. The follow-on replacement was the Mach-2 Convair F-106 Delta Dart, which was an extensive redesign of the F-102.

and the wheels are white for heat reflection or something like that because otherwise they get too hot.

Great photo jetprop :o. Really brings out the beauty of the beast [smiley=tekst-toppie.gif] [smiley=tekst-toppie.gif].
And club, The sr-71's rear wheels were painted white for heat deflection. The front ones were cooled by the cabin air conditioning thus eliminating the need to have the wheels in a special type saving costs. But again, if you were operating the habu, the last thing on your mind would be cost :P

o,o,o pick me!!! They're called ummmmm. Stars. You know giant balls of fire in space which are commonly mistaken to be burning? :D Just put a layer of cumulus and cirrus to stop the Natural "glitch" ;D ::)

i know but i just wanted to add a small amount of clouds and i didn't notice them at first.
and techinicly they arent balls of fire.
they are balls of hydrogen and helium depending on the age of the star.

o,o,o pick me!!! They're called ummmmm. Stars. You know giant balls of fire in space which are commonly mistaken to be burning? :D Just put a layer of cumulus and cirrus to stop the Natural "glitch" ;D ::)

*Ahem* we really should start our own topic :-X

Bear Scare!
CF-18 Hornet, 410 Squadron (Cougars), of CFB Cold Lake, Alberta, Intercepts a Soviet Bear over the Canadian Arctic.

Up untill the mid 90's, the Soviets would frequently send flights of bombers over the arctic to patrol within Canadian airspace to test rection times. Canadian pilots started refering to these scrambles as Bear Scares. Ive witnessed several of these intercept launches while I was an air cadet, attending summer camp at CFB Cold Lake (CYOD). My closest personal experience of the Cold War...

and techinicly they arent balls of fire.
they are balls of hydrogen and helium depending on the age of the star.

CORRECT!  I'm quite impressed!  I'm pretty sure not many people who don't actually go in and study this type of stuff like us know that!  but they can even go MUCH further than that down the elemental table.  Search a bit deeper and you'll see. ;)

But really. I love science And I'm always reading more on the internet 8-) But Jetprop good to see there are still a few kids who find boring old nature interesting.
But The media really misleads people saying the stars burn. They can't they are in outer space and fire needs oxygen to burn. In fact that's why the "true" Few experts tell you to avoid opening doors when there's a fire.

.....and so we continue with the Judges Choice competition!!!

And heres my little entry.

'Testing Times'

The British Aircraft Corporation TSR-2 was a cancelled Cold War strike and reconnaissance aircraft developed by the British Aircraft Corporation for the Royal Air Force in the late 1950s and early 1960s. The TSR-2 was designed to penetrate a well-defended forward battle area at low altitudes and very high speeds, and then attack high-value targets in the rear with nuclear or conventional weapons. Another aspect of its combat role was to provide high-altitude, high-speed photo reconnaissance, requirements that necessitated incorporating "state-of-the-art" aviation technology that would make it the highest-performing aircraft in these roles. Although only one prototype was completed, test flights indicated that the aircraft would be able to meet its stringent design specifications.

Here we see an early test flight of the TSR2 sans extended undercarriage, flanked by an English Electric Lightning chase plane.

Thanx for looking ;)

Thanx :) You know, i went all over simv looking for the correct lightning that really did chase the TSR2, and couldnt find one! So i downloaded something pretty close. Did the shot and all that, and then discovered i've actually already got a T4, abliet not the correct XM number, but in the right yellow stripe markings......it just wasnt working as some files were missing/put in the wrong place when i installed it.

Got it working now. Bah! ::)
