Title: Callsign Prob
Post by xerxes on Dec 22nd, 2009 at 1:47pm
I am trying to get my user a/c to go by "Air Force" instead of "Experimental".  Isn't this config correct to make it so? :  If so, it's not working.  I have the F-86 by Kirk and it uses Air Force no prob.  I have also tried spelling it "Airforce" as one word to no avail.

Air Force (two words) is correct as you have it.

Try giving it a flight number and it should work.

in your FS9 / AIRCRAFT folder, there should be a Notepad file called "AIRLINES.CFG" open that and add "AIR FORCE" to that list.  This should help ATC recognize your airline.

if none of the suggestions above help, you might want to look in to searching for a program called EDITVOICEPAK.  It can add call signs to your Flight Sim and make it sound a lot more realistic with terminology and talking speed.

Hey Capt.  I have Edit Voicepack and all of that, and it all works fine.  I also have another a/c that ATC calls out "Air Force", and I have checked the "airlines" file and Air Force does indeed appear there. So...

That was it Jerry, it worked.  It's about the only thing I didn't try.  Thanks a bunch.

xerxes,

As Jerry mentioned, you must add a flight number for ATC to use an airline name.

Capt...,

The 'airlines.cfg' has nothing to do with whether ATC can speak an airline name. It's only purpose is to make the name available in the 'Airline Call Sign' drop down list when selecting an aircraft. It will not cause ATC to speak a name that is not already defined in the 'USEnglishBig.gvp' voicepack file.

@Dave: I have a Beech D18S Amphibian that I got from http://www.farmboyzimsflightsims.com/Floats_Seaplanes.html (last one at the bottom)

If I change the "atc_airline=" line to "atc_airline=Bush Pilots" and put a Flight number: 2769; ATC will only call me by the flight number and NOT say "Bush Pilots 2 7 6 9er, turn Heading XXX and climb to altitude 8000".   It will only say the flight number and what it wants me to do.

I also have EVP, and I was told that I would have to make my own VoicePak for ATC to call me what I want because it can not "identify" the name I want.

What I was getting at, was if none of the above suggestions work (adding a flight number) then EVP might be the only way to go, because XERXES might have to make his own voicepak for it.

I'm trying to get ATC to quit calling me "Experimental".  As noted below, I changed the manufacturer to Lockheed, which is in my airlines file.  I also changed airlines file by adding Lockheed Martin, both words appear separately in the airlines file.  The call "Lockheed" obviously works because it is in the default for the Vega.  Why is it not working?

Another thing I was trying to do was having ATC send me to a Combat Military parking space instead of general aviation.  There are plenty of open Mil spaces on my AFCAD.

Using FS9 on Win XP. Need some help please.

ATC will not direct any aircraft you are flying to a specific parking area (as it can do with AI aircraft).

To be directed to a "reserved spot" you will need to set that up.  I wrote an Illustrated Tutorial on how that is done if you are interested.  The filename is vip_park.zip. For FSX the filename is vip_fsx.zip.

Not sure if they are in the library here. If not, they are available at Avsim.

Hope that helps.

Thanks Opa, I look for that.  Could someone provide an answer to the other half of my question?  Thanks.

You are welcome -

BTW - I believe the payware Radar Contact program may be able to direct aircraft you are flying to specific gates - not positive about that though.

atc_type=Lockheed, in the [general] section.

atc_flight_number=T4    <-- can only use numbers, no alpha
atc_parking_types=RAMP_MIL_COMBAT  <- legal entries are:  RAMP, CARGO, GATE, DOCK, MIL_CARGO, MIL_COMBAT. Seperate multiple entries with commas.

atc_type=LOCKHEED     These 2 entries are ok, but go in the [General]
atc_model=F16             section that follows the last [fltsim.x] section

Here is a handy reference for default ATC airlines, types and models.
