Title: First simpit Part 16- quadrant and armrest, etc.

Been very busy lately on the pit...got the throttle quad almost finished (the design was 90% of the work; LOL), and my armrest idea turned out to be one of my better ones.

Please check the site for an update....

Also received the rest of my pots and switches and my Hagstrom boards, so before I go to Chicago this month I should be doing first tests of my quadrant and maybe even the stick! :)

I have been toying with the idea of building a quad. Very nice example you got there and it looks great in the pit ;)

Thanks.
I forgot to mention that even just mocked-up, the lever action is perfect. Really happy with that.
We'll see how well that MDF wears...

rottydaddy,

Try cutting up a cheap nylon cutting board from a Dollar Store.

That's brilliant! I had some bits of Teflon, but they were too small to shape correctly (the key thing is to have two bolts going through so they don't rotate with the levers, dragging the other levers)... but sheet nylon  is an excellent compromise.
I'll be looking into that; thanks.

That pit is looking the Muts Nuts.  If i ever build a sim pit I think I would do something like what you are creating.  I superpose its the best of both worlds Looks like a real pit (from the inside) will work on any aircraft and it don't take up half the front room.  I like the concept if it being a self contained unit so you can sit in there using it while the other half watches whatever rubbish on the TV and you probably wont disturb each other.

Also Nice Dog man,  Rescue dogs are the best i had a Lurcher loverly dog.

Thanks, Buggs... haven't seen you around here in a while!

In restrospect-  no regrets, I mean heck I haven't even finished it yet- it's a lot more than it needed to be, furniture-wise. ;)

But it's an amusing project, and I'm confident it will really allow realistic sim flight with almost any plane, which was Goal #1.

Now, I have to ask: what kind of dog is a Lurcher?

LOL; no, there's barely enough room in there for me. ;D

I've been working on it a bit lately... gave up this evening when I trashed a pot lever trying to drill and tap it for a #6 screw.  ::)
Now I have to order more and go with a smaller, untapped hole and #4 bolts... with nuts... that's going to be a PITA to assemble!   >:(

A Lurcher is a cross bread Mostly Greyhound and a bit of Colly.  Makes them rather smart and very fast dogs second fastest in the world I think. Very good for putting food on the table  hmm its been ages since I had Rabbit.  :D

Very hectic schedule lately, but a coupla weeks ago I spent some more time on it and made some progress on the quadrant... couldn't find any of that cutting-board material that was the correct thickness to keep me from having to redo everything else, so I'm sticking with the MDF for now.
Got the knobs on the handles, and started sussing out how the pots will interface. Tested one with my Hagstrom board and realized I had mistakenly gotten audio-taper pots instead of linear0taper pots, so I have to order new ones. But the action of the levers is good,; my thumbnail ergonomic analysis proved correct. It's a little different from any real plane, but it's not awkward working those levers.

Installed the keyboard tray, did some work on the nose box and panels (finishing, etc)... I should get some more done this weekend, after which I'll add a new page to the site with some pics.

Nice website and project Sean. It is coming together nicely. You have a great looking dog. Three legs does not seem to hinder her much. My hound is a rescue job too. I have a Lab Shepard cross. Black from the tip of his tail to the tip of his nose (he has a couple of white hairs on his chest, but don't we all). One ear up, one ear down and daft as the day is long.
