Title: FSX Post by TXGrunt on Dec 29th, 2005 at 11:26pm
I was just checkin out simflight.com and they have news that microsoft is going to be announcing news on FSX after the new years.... Its all exciting and all but what about all the payware you bought??? I know I have spent well over $200 in payware for FS9. Just disappointed cause I am wondering if the payware software and planes will be compatible with FSX...??? :(

i GUARANTEE everything will be compatible. MS isnt stupid. When they released CFS3, they learned how dumb they were. Nothing was compatible, and that was bad. Certain things may be screwed up, like how props from old 2002 planes dont show, but I am sure they will still work

I have probably $4000 in payware addons for FS9. I figure some will be compatible and some wont be. Some will need reworking by the developers, and some are probably forgotten. If none of them are ompatible, I will continue flying FS9.
I figure I will need a revamped PC within a year or so and at that time I might consider FSX, but for now Im happy with FS9 |

If it does require Vista M$ is just trying to milk us for more money. And i wont like that cause i dont want to update my operating system

Here we go again.....This must not be my week.....What is "Vista"...I'm guessing a new form of O.S.? |
Title: Re: FSX Post by richardd43 on Jan 3rd, 2006 at 10:44pm
Cody, yes it is a new OS and if you look at the requirements, you are set to go. You have everything required to run Vista and run it well.

I've just been looking at what it will cost me to upgrade to 64bit (in order to run Vista). Only about $235. Not bad considering the price of a whole new system.

Lucky you. I'll probably be spending more than $1000 when I rebuild my system ::)

Why? There is plenty of good freeware. For that cost, you might as well invest in real-life flight time. |

Commodore 64
210 kb Hard Drive 36" Sony Trinitron TV for moniter 100kb on board memory not sure what kinda videocard? Cody, I envy you. The Commodore 64 was my most favorite computer ever. My first flight simulator was for that computer. Then Solo flight. Awe man memories. |

Ahh, the commodore 64. Back in the day, I loved that system. Gotta miss those cassette drives though ;D
And the floppy disk drive you could get was about the size of the computer itself ::) ...And after using the commodore for a couple years, we somehow got an intel 8086 system, which we later upgraded to a 286...! :o 8) Those were the days ;) |

Yikes, its time to get a new computer! When FSX comes out that is... Im still running an ole pentium 3 with a have decent vid card that can just barely hold its own with todays addons.
Sigh, like some of you, I spent like so much money on payware though, i sure hope they are compatible. Sadly im afraid they will probably be outdated by even better payware when FSX hits... |

My credit will build up high enough for a more powerful Dell by the time that sim comes around.

Exactly. Do you think Bill Gates gives a rats *** about a game? He needs to stay on the forefront of the main thing that M$ has built its entire business on... an operating system! Flight simulator to the consumer is an obsession,.... Flight simulator to Bill Gates is like finding a few dollars in your pocket after a long night of being at the pub! If you build it, they will buy it! You can't stay at the top of the heap unless your business is always at the forefront constantly pushing its limitations.. The problem here is just when we get comfortable with something, it is old! ;) I am looking forward to getting Vista as I am a bit tired of the current XP. It should be nice to see a fresh look to my desktop along with the new features that it has to offer. I will definitely be getting FSX the day it comes out as I have will all the flight Sim versions. ;D Dave |

Regarding backward compatibility:
If the MS folks figures out a better way of doing things, that would render FS9 add-ons incompatible, what do they do? Be chained to an old architecture to maintain backward compatibility, or do the new thing for a better experience? I say, they should use the new method AND provide conversion utilities. My $.02 |

Title: Re: FSX Post by JBaymore on Jan 5th, 2006 at 12:56pm
Personally I'll have to get the hardware up to snuff before I buy the new version of the sim. I really do not want to re-create my first year of frustration with fs9.
But I know that I will buy it. ;D And my "hot tip" for FSX.................. totally ignore whatever "minimum specifications" that Microsoft puts on the box. ;) ;D best, ...................john "Looking forward to true surrond sound in the simpit!!!!!" |
Title: Re: FSX Post by CODY614 on Jan 5th, 2006 at 1:08pm
I gotta admit.....I wished I could have really gone nut's with the video card.....but the 400 or 500 dollars for the top end was kinda hard to slip past my wife!
But I cannot belive the way FS9 runs now!....My old system got to be a slide show. I dont' know how anybody else does it but I used to have mine built by a very good friend.....I watched and learned....found out where he bought his stuff.....And 'voila'....I built this last one myself!...Saves you bunch of money! But you gotta do it.....even 1 year old stuff is too slow.Cuz the new stuff coming out is that good. Jeff T. |
